- Reviewed and approved by Zoho
Key features
- Can handle formatted and non-formatted country values in many languages.
- Detects the country for many regional entities.
- Extracts a two-letter country code (in ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 format).
- Optionally, overrides the raw country value with a formatted version in a language of choice (over 20 languages supported).
Why is country formatting important?
As a database grows, the risk of non-standarized values in fields such as country fields grows as well. This kind of values can be of many types, for instance: not properly cased, with or without diacritic characters, with typographical mistakes, with too many (or too few) spaces, in a different language than expected, not belonging to the same entity expected, etc.
The main cause is not having the proper systems implemented to prevent this happening, usually as a consequence of human action.
The greatest impact these inconsistencies have on a business is poor quality of data, resulting in the inability to obtain reliable insights from the collected data and a direct hit to potential revenue as no data based decisions can be taken, or even worse, decisions are taken based on wrong data. It also results in poor customer experience, especially when the company uses the data for automated processes.
This extension helps you keep your country data correctly formatted and standarized, so that you can make better business, get accurate insights from consistent data and offer a better customer experience through reliable automation.
Detected entity types and languages
The extension is capable of detecting and recognizing unformatted country names in many languages (written both in latin and non-latin alphabets, however being more reliable with the first), as well as common abbreviations and variants. Furthermore, it can also recognize regions (for instance, if the country value is Québec, the formatted country will be Canada) and other geographical entities.
The best way to know how well the extension meets your expectations and needs is to try it thoroughly during the initial free trial period.
Getting started
- Install the extension from the Zoho Marketplace.
- Adjust the extension settings as described below.
- The extension is now working.
Extension settings and supported languages
- Automatic country name formatting: if set to ON (default), every time a lead, contact or account is created the extension will process the country fields of the new record and will replace their values with formatted, properly cased versions of them, in the language of your choice. You may disable this functionality if you wish to by changing this setting to OFF.
-
Formatted country name output language: set to “eng” (English) on default, this setting is a 3 letter language code which controls the language you wish the processed country names to be outputted in. It only has effects if “Automatic country name formatting” is ON. The languages currently supported and their 3 letter values are:
-
- Arabic (ara)
- Catalan (cat) *
- Croatian (hrv)
- Czech (ces)
- Dutch (nld)
- English (eng)
- Estonian (est)
- Finnish (fin)
- French (fra)
- German (deu)
- Gujarati (guj) *
- Hindi (hin) *
- Hungarian (hun)
- Italian (ita)
- Korean (kor)
- Polish (pol)
- Portuguese (por)
- Russian (rus)
- Slovak (slk)
- Spanish (spa)
- Swedish (swe)
- Tamil (tam) *
- Turkish (tur)
- Urdu (urd)
- Welsh (cym)
If the value of this field is empty, incorrect or not supported, the output language will automatically default to “eng” (English).
- Keep original value if no country found: If set to ON (default), when no country name is found for the unprocessed value, the original unprocessed value will be kept in the country field. Otherwise, the country field value will be set to blank if no country name is found.
How to use
Once the extension has been installed and the settings configured, the extension will automatically execute in the background and process the country fields of every new lead, contact or account created in your CRM instance. Such fields are:
- Leads: Country.
- Contacts: Mailing Country, Other Country.
- Accounts: Billing Country, Shipping Country.
- A Country Code field, where the detected country code will appear, if any. The country code will consist in two uppercase letters, following the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 format.
- Raw country fields for the fields decribed above. If Automatic country name formatting is ON, the original unprocessed values of the country fields will be placed there upon processing, overriding any value they may contain. Therefore, after the fields are processed you can at any time check the original, unprocessed value for the country field.
Hiding Raw country fields
The extension creates Raw country fields to keep the original unprocessed value of the module country fields. However, if you don’t want to see the Raw country fields, you may hide them:
- Go to Settings > Customization > Modules and Fields and select the module and layout of interest.
- Move the cursor on the Raw country field and click on the three dots next to it. Select Set permission.
- Select “Don’t show” for the user profiles of your choice.
